A wastewater overflow has occurred between Wilson Inlet to the Denmark Caravan Park in Denmark. Water Corporation has warned people not to swim or beach fish within this area.

Wastewater has overflowed from upstream of the Zimmermann Street Pump Station. Some of this wastewater has made its way to a creek which flows to the Wilson Inlet.

Early estimates indicate that about 20,000 litres of wastewater has overflowed from the wastewater pump station.

Warning signs have been erected from the Gazebo on the inlet to the Denmark Caravan Park.

The Department of Health will notify Water Corporation and the Shire of Denmark when signs can be removed based on the results of water sampling.

Water Corporation was notified of the issue and crews responded immediately.

The cause of the overflow is still being investigated.

Water Corporation apologises for any inconvenience this overflow may cause.

A further statement will be issued to advise when the water is safe for swimming and beach fishing is again permitted.
